July 7, 2020Slow it down and watch the puck and listen for the whistle. It’s really close but the puck did cross the line right when the ref blew the whistle. It’s a good clean goal.

July 7, 2020I wonder if the fact that McDavid was the one who scored has any effect on the review. I've seen much more clear goals overturned and was surprised that was considered a goal. That being said I agree it's a good goal and hate when goals get overturned because the ref lost sight of the puck or had intended to blow the whistle.

It was confirmed that Connor McDavid's shot completely crossed the New Jersey goal line as the culmination of a continuous play where the result was unaffected by the whistle. The decision was made in accordance with Rule 37.3 which outlines goal situations subject to video review, such as a "Puck entering the net as the culmination of a continuous play where the result of the play was unaffected by any whistle blown by the Referee upon his losing sight of the puck."
