At this point, calling Artifact a dead game would be disrespectful to dead games.
Defense of the Ancients, Counter-Strike 1.6 and StarCraft: Brood War are “dead” games, and there are still thousands of people around the world who play them every day.
Artifact is beyond dead.
But what happened?

SuperTime2Change
July 3, 2020Artifact was a complete hype train disaster and even the fan reactions were a disaster for Valve. They should have known, but Valve is out of touch with players and the video gaming industry. They're out of touch with their own Steam members even.
Valve has become a stagnated corporate greed pool just like Blizzard, Activision and all the other greed breeds out there. Valve used to be good, but over the past 2 decades the corporation, money and marketing went to their head and that's the direction Valve chose to follow – marketing and sales instead of developing and publishing video games is what Valve is all about anymore.
I've mirrored almost all my quality games on other stores so I'm not held hostage to Valve anymore. Feels great having games spread out everywhere so not one corporation is in control of my gaming experiences.

July 3, 2020Artifact is not a terrible game. But it has a fatal flaw: It's not free to play. You can't sell a game nobody asked for, for a tripple A price.
